Where is The Cain Condominium Vacation Rental located in Costa Rica?

Our condo is a private resort condo located within the property of the Sanctuary Resort and Spa in Playa Azul, Costa Rica. Playa Azul is on the Nicoya Peninsula, 5 km North of San Juanillo and 4 km. South of Marbella, on the Pacific Ocean. It is located within the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica.

What airport do I fly in to? How far is the condominium from the airport?
Liberia is the closest international airport. Although the resort is only 45 kilometers from the Liberia airport, given that some of Costa Rica's roads are unpaved (as is the road leading to the resort), the drive from the airport takes approximately 2 hours. Alternatively, connecting flights can be booked from Liberia to Tamarindo, which is about 1 hour or so away or to Nosara, which is about 30-45 minutes away from the oceanfront condos.

How do I get from the airport to the vacation rental? Should I rent a car?
Rental car companies in Costa Rica are plentiful and are located next to the Liberia airport. A rental car is highly recommended, since there are so many places to go and things to see, but, it will be important to check your arrival/departure times to avoid driving the Costa Rican roads in the dark! We usually book a rental car using POAS, a rental car company local to Costa Rica. Contact: rgonzalez@poasrentacar.com. You can also make arrangements directly with the Sanctuary Condominiums at sanctuarycondominiums@yahoo.com for an airport pick-up/drop off. The cost, one way, is about $130.00 USD.
Be sure to fill up your gas tank when it is half full, since the roads in Costa Rica seem to use more energy to get from one place to another. Gas stations are located in Liberia, Santa Cruz and San Juanillo (where gas comes in one gallon hand carried jugs!)

Where do I get groceries/sundries?

Liberia, Costa Rica has a very large supermarket and items may look more familiar in this Supermercado than in smaller markets. There is also a market in Santa Cruz, Costa Rica (on the way to the private resort condo).

We highly recommend that you stop for groceries BEFORE arriving at our private condo. Plan what you will need for the length of your vacation rental. Although there is a "mini-market" on-site, it is sparsely stocked, and there is not a supermercado (supermarket) closeby to the oceanfront condo rentals. There are, however, smaller stores in Marbella and San Juanillo, for condiments, eggs, bread, toiletries, beverages, snacks and the like.

Is there internet service? What about phone service?

Our private condo does not have a phone or internet service. HOWEVER, there is wireless internet available near the resort reception area. There is also a computer for use by vacation rental guests in the reception area.

Cell phones can be rented in Costa Rica, but due to its (somewhat) remote location, there are only a few "spots" on the resort property where you can get any reception. Most cell phone companies will sell a Central American "chip" for your personal cell phone for your stay at our vacation rental.
